the central question in 蜗居 is-- is it better to enjoy a better standard of living in the suburbs? or endure a crap environment in the city?
is it better to be the wife of a poor bloke? or to be the mistress of a wealthy one?
this is my first time living in the city, and i must admit it's quite addictive. everything's just so close and accessible. i walk to the nearby Haymarket library to study and when i nod off (nowadays i can't stay awake if i don't drink coffee!), i just walk a block to De La France for coffee and to stare at people.
